The new Maximilien's Vault shop is so cool, because look at my most played heroes.

It might be hard to tell with how little I talk about them (/s), but these four? They're my biggest blorbos. The blorbiest.

With how hard Season 13's cosmetics hit my Microsoft Rewards points wallet and how much Blizzard has been giving away cosmetics I've already bought for other heroes I love (e.g. Mei and her Flower Child set), I kind of promised myself to only buy battle passes, Tracer stuff, and the occasional collaboration skin. (I still love Bumblebee Bastion, but I unfortunately did not have enough Overwatch Coins for Toph Beifong Venture 😭) Still, I expected to see skins for these four in my "personalized discounts."

For example, despite the "Zombie Summer" bundle being no more than 500 Overwatch Coins (as I already owned the original skins), I didn't buy it because A) I hate the graphical fidelity of Overwatch 1 skins when placed beside Overwatch 2 skins and B) I figured I would vote with my wallet. Recolors suck. Alas, I'm now missing Grill Zombie: 76 in Peepaw's Hero Gallery, and I'm somewhat surprised it- or Huntsman: 76- didn't appear.

Recolors aside, I also missed out on Heist: 76 back in Season 12 and Siege Winston last season. Would I have bought them now? Eh, they would've had to be on one hell of a sale. On the other hand, despite being an avid Black Cat Tracer hater, it would've been nice to be one step closer to completing my collection for my KIN! (Again, Season 13 hit hard.)

What do I get in Maximilien's Vault instead?

I have played a bit of Illari in Quick Play recently, but I haven't touched Cassidy or Zarya in ages. (Granted, they were below Soldier: 76 in the screenshot above at 80 and 77 hours respectively.)

Now, with Roadhog, he's honestly one of my least favorite characters, and I go out of my way to avoid racking up playtime hours for him; he makes up only 20 of my 2,454 total tracked hours, and a lot of that is from Battle for Olympus. Since it didn't seem to track playtime, I did play him in the first Overwatch Classic to level his very low progression level up for the weekly challenge rewarding Overwatch Credits, but I still don't think that should've influenced Maximilien so much here!

With all that being said, what do you mean the Roadhog, Zarya, and Cassidy skins aren't even on a discount? What gives? Does Microsoft hate money???

Anyway, before I part, I must address the elephant in the room. Yes, it turns out the images of Maximilien I found in the files were for this live service microtransaction slop, but there were still plenty more voice lines for him than the ones heard here! Do NOT lose hope, fellow PvE enjoyers! Team 4 is not done with Maximilien yet!

I do enjoy the “Purifiers”, “Brotherhood of Humanity”, and “Reavers”… they fulfill pretty basic storylines.

Don’t care for Orphanmaker and Nanny, Trevor Fitzroy, or Fabian Cortez.

Apocalypse is okay- never been a major favorite.

I LOVE the Brood and whatever aliens were featured after “a Love Story” with Storm and Forge.

I actually really liked evil Rogue and the Brotherhood in general. (Mystique and Destiny are my hardcore favorite villains!)

Everyone loves Magneto- even though he’s overused.

Juggernaut is fine- not my favorite but his storylines are fine- his relationship with Black Tom is kind of what seals it for me.

I LOVE evil psychopathic Sabertooth…but the comics kind of ruined his character.

Never really got into Deathbird, D’Ken, or the Shi’ar- they’re fine but it’s not something I get excited for…

Everyone loves Mister Sinister- honestly I wish they would bring back Liu’s version of Miss Sinister because she was great.

Weirdly not a fan of Exodus, despite being a fan of telekinesis….

Lady Deathstrike is fine- again, not my favorite but I do enjoy her.

I DO miss evil Emma- I liked her heel change but they have never been able to find a character to fill that space ☹️

I do guiltily LOVE Empath… I know he’s creepy and problematic but he IS a great villain when written as a psychopath.

Kind of miss Mastermind- Regan isn’t as fun as the original.

Everyone LOVES Sauron!

I DO weirdly love Arcade and Miss Locke…but like Sabertooth, they kind of ruined the character by trying to “update” him and make him “cool” 😒

Love Emplate and wish he appeared more!

Silver Samurai is ALWAYS fun!

Miss evil Daken despite again, being problematic. Now Akihiro is just boring because writers don’t know what to do with him.

Kimura was fun but got old fast (wish KYOST had developed her more!)

Never cared for Bastion. Nimrod is fine but again kind of a “one trick pony”.

I do really like Bella Donna.

Trask and Cameron Hodge were fun.

Hate Danger- just never got into it.

Don’t like Sugarman. Dark Beast is okay.

The Montgomery family, a bastion of old money and influence in the realm of oil sales, has seen the rise and fall of many financial dynasties and somehow still holds on. Once a shining beacon of wealth and prosperity, it is not without a few stumbles along the way that has led the Montgomery family to lose some of its shine in the higher circles of New York City.

First Montgomery (75) brought the company to greatness and helped solidify the family legacy within oil sales, with his legacy matched only by his wife, the illustrious First Callahan (73), a retired three time Academy Award winning actress. Together they had six children, raising First Montgomery (52) to take over the family business from the moment he was old enough to conceptualize what the oil industry was - but unfortunately he could not handle the pressure and after taking the business over from his father, within two years he faced a tumultuous downfall due to drug addiction. Supported by his resilient wife, First Montgomery (51), he continues to strive for redemption in the eyes of his father, his wife, his two daughters, and the public at large.

The eldest daughter, First Harris-Montgomery (50) took over the mantle as CEO of the company and all of the challenges that come from being a woman in charge of a male dominated industry. Facing her own trials at home with problems of infertility and the overwhelming desire with to be a mother, she and her husband First Harris (51) turned to adoption in the early years of their marriage, raising a son and a daughter now in their twenties. First Montgomery (48) has also made a splash in the headlines, both for his successes in architecture and for his newly public engagement to First Harrington (39), at the urging of his father to try and secure more stability for the family’s ever changing financial and social status.

Behind him are three sisters: First Montgomery (45), a successful political news correspondent, First Montgomery (40), a middle school teacher, and First Montgomery (38), a former prima ballerina turned studio owner and choreographer in New York City. The three daughters have seemingly been able to escape the familial pressure to go into the family business, though it hasn’t been without personal difficulty from their father.

she was born into a world where darkness seemed to be the only thing that existed. never was she one of those girls who basked in the sunlight and daydreamed about a delicate future. no, chelsea has always been a part of the underworld, it birthed her, it raised her.

her mother has a penchant for taking in broken things, but can she raise something of her own? the jury is still out, chelsea has seen hundreds of brothers and sisters pass through her doors and often feels divided from them, never making genuine connections. she's the director's daughter, why would they get close to her? if only they knew it meant her mother was harder on her than anyone else.

dance was a passion from the moment she could walk, but is it her own or was it given to her? chelsea isn't quite sure. she's been doing it her entire life, pushing through broken toes and cracked nails, feet so raw they blister and bleed. but now she's a principal dancer, something she had to prove twice over to achieve.

but that little word nags in her mind, is this what she loves to do ? the answer isn't so simple. dancing can clear her mind, prove to be an escape and often the only time she feels her mother isn't disappointed with her. but the young girl has always seen the darker sides of the academy as her home, a calling from a young teenager who wished to be more.

she's been training in secret most of her life, or others will take pity on her and spar with her. it's forbidden by her mother, but secrets make friends, don't they? some are too foolish or careless to think they'll face consequences, some look down upon her and think it's a harmless task to teach the ballerina to fight.

and now years later she's the perfectly honed weapon, crafted not by her mother's hand. chelsea is deadly, and her biggest weapon is that she doesn't look it. practiced innocence becomes her like a second skin, giggles and pink pass the disguise. after all, how could a ballerina harm someone ?

and so here she sits, begging to join the ranks of the assassins the ballet has to offer, but a mother's refusal to allow it. can she convince her mother now that she's in her mid 20's? Or will she forever remain a porcelain doll meant to only be seen and never touched? right now the only answer is that the dark haired assassin in the city, clad fully in black, has certainly caught the attention of people higher up on the food chain.

fun little bits, she drives a black sports bike only when she's dressed as her little alter ego (who she likes to call vicious), she's kept every pair of ballet slippers she's ever worn, she collects weapons like a gremlin, her preferences are knives, she does love pretty things and enjoys dressing in cute aesthetics, but she also does love black, she has a cat named coco who is a white, long furred little demon and only likes her.

Revisiting Mutant Magic: 5 Standout Moments From X-Men '97

The opening episode of X-Men '97 establishes the status of the game well. Henry Peter Gyrich, a slimy federal agent who advocates for anti-mutant laws and Genosha terrorists launch a huge Godzilla Sentinel to attack mutants. Charles Xavier, fortunately, is still around to guide his students through their struggle to survive. Magneto is tasked with taking over in his absence. This is an eerie revelation.

1. Nightcrawler & Wolverine vs. Bastion Kurt Wagner aka Nightcrawler rejoins the X-Men after the Genosha catastrophe. He confesses to being responsible for the triggering of the series' mutant-related hate crime to create anti-mutant sentiment. Bastion was behind the scheme and also used an instrument to alter mutants like Illyana Rasputin in order to utilize their powers for evil. Bastion, a cyborg-like version of Sebastion Gilberti, who is employed by Master Mold and Prime Sentinels is an anti-mutant. Bastion isn't the best in hiding his hatred of humans. Therefore, it's not a surprise that Wolverine and Bastion get caught in a battle. The X-Men Animated Series' ability to create thrilling action is best shown by its large, bold, and exciting storytelling. 2. Storm & Beast vs. Prime Sentinels Xavier and Storm go to Trask's farm in search of the man who has employed her for the construction of the next batch of Prime Sentinels. Luckily, Trask gave his son a control medallion that blocks the robots' mutant-sensing devices. Storm's natural telepathy lets her communicate with all kinds of life. Her powers allow her to control conditions like solar winds, ocean magnetic energy, as well as intergalactic mediums. Storm also has the capability to use her mind in order to transfer herself to another place and heal herself. In the case of Beast his neotenous qualities give him the ability to be a genius and an expert hand-to-hand combatant with uncanny agility. His acrobatic talents include the ability to fly, teleport, and split water molecules into oxygen and hydrogen. The acrobat can also use his brain to build telekinetic barriers. 3. Bastion vs. Magneto Bastion is an anti-mutant government programme led by a cyborg/human hybrid. In the comics, Bastion uses the technology-organic virus to revive various human and cyborg villains like anti-mutant ideologues William Stryker and Graydon Creed as well as the notorious mutant killers Cameron Hosk and Bolivar Trask who developed the Prime Sentinels. We discover throughout the season that Master Magnetism has been able to survive the apparent suicide in Genosha and is now Bastion’s prisoner. The cyborg-magic mutation wants to utilize Magneto to develop horrific mutant-versions of the Prime Sentinels which will further galvanize humans against mutants. What is the plan for X-Men '97 do with this interesting idea? 4. Roberto vs. Cyclops After a long time for Marvel's mutant series, it's finally getting the spotlight once again. The big moments of X-Men '97 and Deadpool & Wolverine in the summer of this year are evidence. Unlike recent films, X-Men '97 does not shy away from the lighter elements of its comic book origins. Cyclops for instance, makes use of his optic beams but not just to cause harm on his enemies, but also propel himself around the space. In defending Roberto da Costa, a young Brazilian from the thugs of Friends of Humanity, he shows that his power can be utilized for good. While doing this he shows the power of his manipulation minds can alter the future of politics on an entire planet. 5. Gambit against. Wolverine Gambit is an enigma with powers which allow him to transform things into explosive biokinetic energy, and even living creatures. The weapons he uses are a steel stick as well as playing cards. He was fighting Wolverine in one of their earliest scraps in Uncanny X-Men #273, with Jubilee watching on from the control booth. Gambit transformed a playing card into kinetic energy, and shot it through Logan’s skull at the time that Wolverine was about to get crushed by debris after having leapt from the cooling tower on Three Mile Island. While on the team, Magik advised the New Mutants that some of their teammates weren't able to commit to their cause. This included Roberto da Costa and the religious Rahne Sinclair (a/k/a Wolfsbane). To say that Cameron was nervous about his upcoming nuptials would be an understatement. Over the last week, the closer he came to hearing the wedding bells chime, the more he felt the fiery panic igniting in his chest and chanting run at him.

It certainly wasn't the best mindset to have going into his wedding; he had tried to write it off as pre-wedding jitters, but as he stood amid the chaos that had become their living room -- also known as wedding planning headquarters -- he felt like maybe this was all too much.

The swatches pinned to the bulletin boards hung above the couch like a pinterest photoset. Splayed across the coffee table was the various schedules and itineraries for the day, down to when they'd have time to use the restroom. The large posterboard seating chart was posed on an easel, blocking the TV screen, like it had been for the last couple of months. The planning, down to what socks he was wearing... it was stifling for someone like him.

He grabbed his keys and his wallet, thankful for the hazy distraction that a night of drinking with the best of his friends would provide. Already, the thought of getting lost in the loud bass racing through his blood electrified his step, spurring him ever quicker towards what had become one of his last bastions of life and excitement, where everything else had become flat and tight.

"Hey, man! Congrats!" The bouncer thumped him on the back as he let Cam through, ignoring the twenty he was brandishing for the cover. "Free for you tonight."

"Thanks, man!" Cam grinned, glad that this looming event could still allow for some perks.

He barely had to scan the club for a few seconds before he spotted Anna waving at him as she bounced excitedly, and his face split into a wide grin as he quickened his step. He caught her in his arms, mindful of the glass she held so that it wouldn't spill on the two of them, and he hugged her tightly, thankful that she had thought to put together something so relaxing for him tonight.

"Thanks!" Cam said and took the glass without a second thought, tipping it back and drinking the contents in one long gulp. He laughed as Max whisked her away to the dance floor, watching as they were pushed tightly together among the vibrating crowd.

"Is that the loser who's about to get married?" He turned to see his brother Jesse walking towards him with a rueful smile on his face. Cam pulled him into a hug, clapping him hard on the back. He still couldn't believe how much Jesse had grown since he'd been away, and it was still unsettling to think that it probably wouldn't be too much longer before Jesse was doing these same traditions.

"Dude, I'm getting married. I think that makes me a winner." Cam said, as he released him.

"Whatever you say," Jesse said, but his eyes were already scouring the dance floor to see if the look of anyone interested him. Cam smirked at him, rolling his eyes as he grabbed a couple of shots from a waiting tray on the table Anna had set up. He passed one to Jesse and they both downed them before going for a second.

Cam lost himself in a couple of songs, the music pulsing from his feet to the top of his head, and he could feel it in his chest, like a beating heart in perfect rhythm. The hot liquor in his stomach burned at the nothing he'd consumed all day, and he felt himself growing hot from the heat of the bodies packed in such a tight space. He found the table again, nearly stumbling as he slid into a seat next to Jesse, who was receiving drinks he'd apparently ordered for the table.

He'd have to try to remember to ask who was picking up the tab for the party.

He grabbed a coke, taking a long drink before realizing it was loaded with more rum than coke. He caught the bartender's eye and held up the drink, a sloppy grin on his face, and the bartender just gave him a few claps with his hands to congratulate him on his wedding.

It was like everyone knew exactly how to take care of him tonight. What was with that?

Cameron was halfway through the rum (and coke) when Anna finally stumbled her way back and into his lap, and he found himself nearly choking with laughter as he threw his arms around her, leaning in close enough that he could smell the vodka on her breath.

"Well, hello, beautiful," He said teasingly. "I'm having a wonderful night. How about you?"

One Last Time

Change had always been a difficult thing for Anna to accept - even though her life had been nothing but change for as long as she could remember. But of all the things she'd had to accept in her admittedly rather short life, by far the hardest had been the knowledge that her time with Cam was coming to an end. In two days, he would be off toward a new, shinier life, and no matter how much he had tried to promise that things wouldn't change, she had always been the more realistic out of the two of them.

In a way it shouldn't have been entirely surprising that he had been the one to have gotten scooped off the market first. Though he had always had the shorter attention span, he would sometimes jump in head first and not stop to realize how he could crack his head on shallow waters. And there she had always been, patiently waiting for him to come back so she could clean him up and send him back out into the world to do it all over again.

It had become increasingly harder over the years to stop herself from wondering what exactly it was about her that made her so seemingly unlovable, so easily left behind.

As if on cue, Max's arms slid around her, and for a moment she was able to break out of the spiral she'd been in since Cam had confided in her about his proposal, easing back into him and craning her head to drop a kiss on his chin.

"Oh damn, are you sure it's not my lucky night?" he grinned down at her, all sweetness as she did a quick spin, the tassels of her gold dress catching the light and for once making her feel like she was actually sparkling. Being with Max was simple and it was so nice to feel wanted that she could see herself settling into a perfectly pleasant life with him.

"Might still be" she teased, leaning up to catch his lips in a searing kiss. "Now, come on! Not a great look if your best man is late," she joked as the two shot back a quick tequila shot before heading off.

Anna may not have had whatever edge you'd needed to survive in the city, but she was still kind of proud that she'd managed to pull off what she thought would be a fun night. She'd rented out the VIP section of a club Cam had mentioned a few times, made sure to let everyone know he was getting married so he'd get nothing less than the most exclusive experience, and gotten there extra early so she could have time to decorate the area. Anna tried not to linger on how many extra shifts she'd have to pick up to make up for the amount of money she'd been throwing at his wedding.

Not that it even mattered anymore when she saw the way his face lit up across the club when he spotted her eagerly waving an arm to signal their spot, jumping in place excitedly until he arrived and she jumped into his arms for a hug "happy almost wedding day!" she chirped a little too loudly - something she blamed on the few drinks she'd already been sipping at to try and settle her nerves.

She didn't have the best record with alcohol, but sometimes it was easier to lean into her natural giddiness when it was running through her bloodstream.

"Oh shit, sorry, here you go!" she looked around and handed him her half-finished drink, "I'll make you- ah!" she giggled, her thoughts interrupted as Max swooped her away to dance with him. For a brief moment she was aggravated that he'd just pulled her away from him, but it was quickly forgotten when Max pulled her in closer mumbling something she couldn't quite understand between the loud thumping of the music, and the ticklish sensation of his lips on her neck.

They were caught like that for a few songs before he finally relented and let her head back to their area, where she grabbed a glass of what she'd thought was water from Jesse, but promptly discovering it was vodka she almost gagged as he lost it laughing, and before she realized it she was laughing too, "ass!" she added with a kick to his leg that made her lose her balance and land promptly in Cam's lap.

"Hey handsome," she smiled up at him, lifting her arms to drape her hands behind his neck, "fun night?"

This is Jack Johnson with his wife Etta Terry Duryea. Johnson, at the height of the Jim Crow era, became the first African-American Heavyweight champion. Find out more about Johnson’s story below 👇👇

Jack Johnson was the son of ex-slaves and the third of 9 children. His debut came at the age of 20 where he fought – and knocked out – Charley Brooks, winning him a purse of just $1.50. As Johnson made more of a name for himself, he was unable to challenge for the heavyweight crown as the current title holder Jim Jeffries refused to fight him; something that was common within the boxing world in that era.

As time went on, and due to Johnson’s obvious skill as well as his bravado and popularity, a chance at the heavyweight title was on the horizon. Johnson made a point to follow the new heavyweight champion Tommy Burns around the globe, taunting him in front of the press for a duration of 2 years, until he finally provoked a match. This title fight occurred in 1908 in Sydney, Australia and the fight was only agreed on by Burns as he was guaranteed a large purse of $30,000. The police stepped in at the 14th round and stopped the fight, with Johnson being declared the winner.

This moment flared up racial animosity, with a portion of whites calling for a “Great White Hope” to take the title from Johnson. The New York Times itself even wrote "If the black man wins, thousands and thousands of his ignorant brothers will misinterpret his victory as justifying claims to much more than mere physical equality with their white neighbors”. Famously during this racial animosity, Winston Churchill banned a scheduled fight in England, as well as the entrance of Johnson. Whether due to public pressure, or the possibility of a black man beating an English soldier in the heart of the British Empire, Churchill declared that Johnson’s fight was “not in the best interests of the nation”. This clearly had a large effect on Johnson, who previously thought of England as the bastion of civilisation, but later stated that the British were hypocrites and no better than Americans.

In 1910, Johnson finally got his chance to fight Jim Jeffries in what was dubbed “the fight of the century”. This was a humbling moment for Jeffries who, after the loss, declared “I could never have whipped Johnson at my best”.

Johnson also faced persecution in his life outside of boxing. Notably, he was arrested in 1912 for violating the Mann Act – jurisdiction that forbade “transporting women across state lines for immoral purposes” – after travelling with his white girlfriend Lucille Cameron. Though this case fell apart, Johnson was later arrested for similar reasons due to his relationship with Belle Schreiber, a relationship that occurred before the Mann Act even existed. In front of an all-white jury, with Kenesaw Landis presiding over the case (the man who fought for disallowing black baseball players, known as the baseball color line), Schreiber testified against Johnson and he was sentenced to prison. Johnson skipped bail and fled with his wife to France. For seven years, they lived in exile across Europe, South America and Mexico, until finally he surrendered himself at the Mexican border.
